A toothbrush sanitizer is a device used to disinfect the toothbrush by applying short-wavelength ultraviolet (UV-C) light to kill or inactivate microorganisms. Studies in dental journals demonstrate that a UV toothbrush sanitizer will effectively kill bacteria and microorganisms. Research also shows that other forms of sanitizing, using common household products, were found to be equally or more successful at eliminating microorganisms from toothbrushes as your toothbrush sanitizer. The difference is that the UV toothbrush sanitizer does the job for you.
Today’s electronic toothbrush is usually driven with a rechargeable battery billed through inductive charging when the brush sits in the charging bottom between uses.
An electronic toothbrush can be categorized as a power, sonic or ultrasonic toothbrush based on the frequency (speed) of its movements. This classification can be depending on if the electronic toothbrush makes movements that are below, in, or above the audible range (20-20,000 Hz or 2400-2,400,000 movements each and every minute), respectively. Movements at sonic rates of speed are created by a motor. Regarding ultrasonic toothbrushes, ultrasonic movements are made by a piezoelectric crystal. A power, electric, or electronic toothbrush is a toothbrush that makes rapid, automatic bristle motions, either back-and-forth oscillation or rotation-oscillation (where the brush head alternates clockwise and counterclockwise rotation), in order to clean teeth.
The toothbrush is an oral hygiene instrument used to clean the teeth, gums, and tongue. It consists of a head of tightly clustered bristles mounted on a handle which facilitates the cleaning of hard to reach areas of the mouth.
Toothbrushes are available with different bristle textures, sizes, and forms. Most dentists recommend using a soft toothbrush since hard bristled toothbrushes can damage tooth enamel and irritate the gums.
Today’s toothbrushes have many features depending on whether the toothbrush is a manual or electric one.
This review is about the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser. Waterpik® has been around since back in the late 1960s. It’s refreshing, invigorating, and easy to use. Since the 1960s, Waterpik has been delivering the 1,200 pulses of water every minute and responsible for 99.9% of Biofilm removal. Now is time to discover the Waterpik® for yourself. Keeping a few tips in mind, you will find it is easy and mess free to clean your teeth and gums with the Waterpik.® Over the years, there have been advances made to the waterpik with different model variations and new attachments.
Where to Find the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser
Now, let’s focus in a bit on the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser. Many stores and online merchants like Amazon actually have an entire section devoted to Waterpik. The least expensive ones start around thirty or so, and going up to a range of just over $100. If you don’t have a Target or Kmart locally, I’m sure you can find water picks at your drug store. Alternatively, you can browse a selection of online merchants here, or you can check out the selection at Amazon. The good thing about Amazon is that you don’t have to leave home, and they will usually get your purchase to you in two days or so.
Visits to the Dental Hygienist will be Less Painful
When I go for my cleaning twice a year, the dental hygienist likes to use an UltraSonic something or another that vibrates and makes a very annoying noise. Everytime I go for a cleaning I wish I had brought a headset and my music to drown out that awful piercing in my ears. I really dislike that Ultrasonic scaler. If they don’t use that scaler, then the hygienist uses that hook, the dental instrument that they clean out underneath your gums with. That’s no fun either. They’ve really got to scrape if they don’t use that scaler.

Recommended by Most Dental Hygienists
The main argument of the hygienist is that if we don’t accumulate all the food along the gum line of our teeth, then they wouldn’t need to scrape a lot or use the Ultrasonic scaler. I am sure that your hygienist, like mine, at one time or the other recommended that you try the Waterpik. The Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser is very effective at cleaning exactly that area”, right along the tooth gum line, and in- between the teeth where I get all this stuff accumulating.
It’s best to keep your waterpik right by the sink because you got to fill this with water every time. It’s going to be sitting in the same place also because it’s plugged into the wall.
Waterpik Water Flosser, Nano Flosser, Deluxe Traveler Case, Tip Storage Case and 12 Accessory Tips Combo Pack
Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser Combo Pack
Many merchants offer a Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser combo pack. Essentially, you get two Waterpiks for the price of one. Included is the main Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser counter top unit and a secondary portable unit. If you travel a lot, as I do, then the portable on comes in quite handy. You can buy a combo pack that includes a portable one and a stationary one. The combo pack is a great idea even if you don’t travel. It comes with two sets of tips as well. That means you can give one to your spouse or another family member.

Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser
Let’s demonstrate how it works. On the handle, they’ve got the ejector button to pop out the tip. There is a pause button that a lot of people say is great. This feature contrasts with other models that require the user to have to turn off to stop the flow of water. You can just pause the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser and restart the flow of water with a simple touch of a button. And another really cool feature is that the top part rotates. This means that you can turn the spray head to different parts of your teeth without having to put your hand at all different angles. You can just twist it around, turn it in, and turn it out.
What’s included with the
Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser
The adjustable power setting on the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser allows you to control the amount of power you want to wash your teeth. There is an included plastic case that has slots where you can fit in all your different Waterpik heads. The tip portion is different on each head. One of these heads is an actual toothbrush. Two of the included tips are identical, and these are their standard tips to go on it. There’s one with a little white collar and a little blue-collar, so you can tell them apart. There are also specialty tips for orthodontics and crowns as well. To insert the tip you push it, and then keep pushing till you get a click. Basically, there’s a little spring- action that clicks and locks the tip in place. There’s also an ejector button that releases the first spring and then you can pull the rest of it out.
How to Use your
Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser
To use the Waterpik Ultra, you fill-up the tank reservoir just about all the way with warm water. Then, you take the handle on which you have attached the ejectable head and you place it into your mouth before you turn the machine on. If you turn it on before putting the handle in your mouth, then water squirts all over. There’s a smaller tank down below that has to fill up first before the water starts coming out.
Check out the video to see an outside view demonstrating the angle of the tip to the teeth and gum tissue.
A straight on, 90-degree angle is all that is required. Just remember you want the water to shoot along the gumline and straight through the space in between the teeth. The video demonstration shows an easy and mess-free technique for using the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser. Fill the reservoir with warm water. Select the tip you want to use. For regular daily use, I use the Jet Tip. Select the power setting. Lean over the sink.
With the tip placed in your mouth, turn the unit on. Keep your mouth slightly open to allow the water to run out. Slowly progress around to the front teeth, and then the back teeth on the left side. Now inside to run the water jet along the gum line at the same angle. You can press the blue button with your thumb to pause the water flow while you switch from the top teeth to the bottom teeth. Another great smile kept healthy by Waterpik.®.
Removes all Food Particles from Under Gums and Between Teeth
Now, this certainly isn’t a substitute for brushing your teeth. However, it does help along the gum line and between the teeth, but to just get the rest of that crud off of the surface of your teeth, you still need to brush. But what is amazing about the Waterpik is that food particles start falling out of your mouth that you never knew were there. It’s amazing the kind of stuff that gets stored under your gums and in the crevices between your teeth.
The Water is a lot faster than flossing and less painful.
The Sonicare Electric toothbrush is a product that can caters to their needs of senior citizens. A sonic toothbrush is easy on the gums and teeth. Seniors have special needs when it comes to oral hygiene because they often have tender gums. The sore gums can be due to medications, dentures, or the normal aging process. When you wear dentures it’s crucial to keep the gums healthy and the remaining teeth clean and cavity free. My mom had an issue with her dentures recently. It really made me focus in on the issues seniors have with things that we all take for granted. A Sonicare Electric toothbrush does most of the work. This relieves the senior of having to exert herself with a brushing motion.
Adjustable Speed – Timer
A sonicare electric toothbrush is easy on the gums and teeth as the vibrations clean away bacteria that can lead to infection. Wearing dentures can be uncomfortable under the best of circumstances, but when the gums are sore and tender they are painful. The new electric toothbrush models have multiple settings too. If gums or teeth are particularly sensitive one day, you can simply select a slower speed. The speed timer lets the senior know when they have brushed long enough. Many of the sonicare electric toothbrush models even have timers. The timer lets the seniors know that it’s time to change brush location. This reminder happens while you are still brushing. As we know seniors sometimes forget which medication they have taken and which pills they still have to take. With the handy timer feature on the electric toothbrush, the senior will know for sure that she has brushed all her teeth and have not accidentally left an area unclean.
No Battery to Change
The new electric toothbrushes have additional senior friendly features as well. Arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are common ailments which afflict seniors. Many senior citizens have arthritic joints in their hands and have lost strength in their wrists. These ailments make it hard to do some basic routines, like manually brushing your teeth. The Sonicare electric toothbrush is easy to grip. This is accomplished by means of an ergonomically designed handle. With a Sonicare electric toothbrush, your teeth are cleaned in two minutes. The new Sonicare electric toothbrush units are very light. Unlike many devices which require routine change of the battery, the Sonicare electric toothbrush requires no change of the battery. Just as importantly is the fact the battery is built into the handle of the toothbrush and does not have to be replaced. There is no fumbling for batteries and the toothbrush is always ready for use for up to a two week period. But just set the brush unit in the charger after each use and you don’t even have to remember to recharge the toothbrush due to a low battery.
Sonicare Electric Toothbrush – Dual Pack
Several of the Sonicare electric toothbrushes come with a two pack option. You get two toothbrushes instead of one. If you get the Sonicare Flexcare two pack model, you can use the second brush for another person in the household. That’s what I did. Or, if you travel a lot, the second one cam become your travel toothbrush. Either way, this Flexcare model of the Sonicare Electric toothbrush is really senior friendly for a couple of reasons. It is very gently. It is gentle enough to be used by people with periodontal pockets, dental restorations, and even people with braces. With its three brushing modes, it improves your gum health in just two weeks while still being quite gentle on your teeth.
Philips Sonicare Flexcare Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush
There are so many products on the market that are simply not suitable for senior citizens. The Sonic electric toothbrush is one example of a product that is very accommodating to elderly needs. If you remember electric toothbrushes from years ago, you probably remember heavy bulky units with a charger that takes up a lot of space. That does not correctly describe the sonic toothbrush on the market today. Senior citizens will find that oral hygiene is much easier to manage using the lightweight modern units.
Philips Sonicare has a number of electric toothbrush options available. This review is focused on the Sonicare FlexCare Platinum, one of Philips’s mid to high range electric toothbrushes. The platinum is a unique specimen among its peers. No other electric toothbrush offers quite the same level of control, nor such a wide variety of included extras. Design-wise, the Platinum sports a clean look, dominated by its abundance of controls. The handle is made of mostly white plastic save for the faux metallic strip running along its face. There’s a patch of texture along the rear, improving the Platinum’s grip when wet.
Common Replacement Brush Head
The Platinum’s body is slab-like, without any ergonomic tapering. It’s not the most comfortable electric toothbrush to use, but it does have a good grip. I found its construction to be solid overall and the brush had no issues surviving small drops and the wear of daily use. The Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum uses Philips’s most common brush head mount system, which has two advantages. The first is that Philips produces a wide variety of brush heads, the majority of which the Platinum is compatible with. The second benefit is that because the replacement heads are so commonly available, prices should be reasonable nearby.
The Flexcare Platinum Features
3 Brush Modes – Long Lasting Battery Charge
A pressure Sensor and Timer
The Sonicare Flexcare Platinum electric toothbrush has two buttons and a rocker on the handle for controls. The larger button up top serves as the on/off switch. The rocker in the middle allows you to control three levels of brush mode intensity. And the small button below is used to change brush modes. The Platinum starts off in Clean and can be cycled through its remaining modes: White and Gum Care. There’s a trio of green LEDs for displaying charge level, brush mode and brushing intensity, for a total of 9 indicator lights. The Platinum’s battery lasts 70 minutes, which equates to 35, 2-minute brushing sessions or roughly 2 and a half weeks of use.
Dual Function UV Sanitizer/Charger
The Platinum electric toothbrush ships with a brush head, carry case, and the UV charger. The UV charger is undeniably large. It does, however, make up for its size by performing two jobs. The right-hand side of the cleaner serves as the charger. Dock the handle on the plastic pin and the Platinum refills its battery.
The second function, on the unit’s left, is a UV sanitizer. Pop open the shielded door, place up to two brush heads inside and turn it on. As the cleaner works its magic, a green light can be seen glowing from the viewport. The cleaning cycle runs for 10 minutes and kills the bacteria caught in-between bristles. The UV light does not remove any physical debris. That still needs to be done with running water. The unit can perform both of these jobs, charging the handle and cleaning two brush heads, simultaneously. And the 4-foot long power cable is long enough to reach any available outlets.
The Platinum’s travel case is made of hard-walled, white plastic. It has room inside for the brush handle and two brush heads. It is perforated in multiple areas, allowing any trapped moisture to drain and evaporate, preventing any bacteria or mildew from accumulating. While the travel case doesn’t look very spectacular or use any premium-feeling materials, its construction is solid, even down to the plastic, mechanical latch. The travel case does its job of protecting the electric toothbrush well. And that’s what matters. It is essentially a hunk of tough plastic. I travel a lot. This travel case made my electric toothbrush quite portable. It survived my trips. Regardless of whether it was in my luggage or backpack the toothbrush was not damaged or did not lose its charge.
Good Price – Great Features
The Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum is essentially a high-end electric toothbrush for less than a high-end price. The level of control offered and a wide variety of included extras, especially the UV brush sanitizer, make it a great electric toothbrush. Looking for a great deal?
